There are many different types of roofing sheets in Ghana. Knowing the difference between them is important when choosing which one you want to use on your home. The three main types of roofing sheets are corrugated iron, concrete tiles and asbestos cement (AC) sheets. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks that should be considered before deciding on which sheet you will use for your home or business.
• Corrugated Iron Roofing Sheets
Corrugated iron roofing sheets are the most common type of roofing sheet in Ghana. They are made from iron, metal or steel and they are usually available in various sizes.
• Concrete Tiles Roofing Sheets
Concrete tiles are made of cement that is poured into a mold to form a tile shape. They are the most durable type of roofing sheet because they have many long-lasting properties. Some of their major benefits are that they are resistant to corrosion and climate changes, and they can withstand high and low temperatures.
• Asbestos cement Roofing Sheets
Asbestos cement roofing sheets are also known as ACH sheets. They are made from asbestos and they are particularly effective against termites and rodents.
This type of roofing sheets is the most common choice among most homeowners in Ghana. This type of roofing sheet is made of corrugated iron sheets which are cut to a square shape and have loose rivets which hold the sheets together. The only reason why this type of roofing is used is because of its affordability and simple construction process. But this type of roofing does not last for very long if you do not maintain it well.
Concrete Tiles
Concrete tiles are a good alternative to the corrugated iron roofing sheets if you have more money and do not want to install corrugated iron on your home. This type of roofing sheet is made from a mix of concrete and sand. It is normally laid on a concrete slab to strengthen it.
Concrete tile roofing sheets have become more popular in recent years. They are stronger than corrugated iron or asphalt, and are easier to clean and maintain than some other types of roofing sheets. The sheet’s surface needs to be covered with a suitable type of material to prevent damage from the sun. You should also take care to ensure that the sheet doesn’t stick to the roof of your home and that it is not used on the top level of your home.
Corrugated Iron Roofing Sheet
The corrugated iron roofing sheet has a tough, durable surface which is durable enough for heavy use, but easy to work with. They are an excellent choice for anyone who doesn’t have access to good quality AC roofing sheets, and doesn’t want to worry about vandalism. In addition, they are waterproof.
This roofing sheet is good for the upper level of the house, and it is extremely durable and suitable for colder regions. Some roofing sheets even come with an adhesive backing so that you can easily mount the sheet on the roof of your house. The downside to this roofing sheet is that it can be very expensive and you will need someone with a lot of experience to properly install it.
Corrugated Iron Roofing Sheet
This type of roofing sheet is good for the middle to lower level of the house, but it is not suitable for colder regions. This roofing sheet is a good choice if you have very long, flat roofs where the ACs can't cover. Because it is made of corrugated iron, it is also quite cheap and can be easily washed and replaced if it becomes damaged.
